Post-doctoral researcher (2)

The Orpella Lab at Georgetown University Medical Center has two open postdoctoral researcher positions (2 to 3.5 years). The lab welcomes applicants interested in any of the following areas of research and their intersection:

-       Speech production and sensory-motor interactions

-       Language statistical learning

-       Neural bases of stuttering

In addition to working on pre-planned projects, the postdoc will have the opportunity to develop their own ideas and will be encouraged to collaborate with other lab members and members of the larger research community. The Orpella Lab is part of the Neuroscience Department at Georgetown University Medical Center, home to a diverse and vibrant community of faculty, researchers, and graduate students working at all levels of analysis.

Postdocs at the Orpella Lab benefit from an excellent research environment, including access to state-of-the-art neuroimaging facilities (MRI, MEG, EEG, TMS, eye-tracking…), inspiring scientific activities (workshops, retreats, seminars), and other opportunities for growth and networking (e.g., funding for conferences and external workshops), as well as a comprehensive benefits package.

Successful candidates must have a solid background (Bachelor’s and Ph.D.) in Linguistics, Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Computer Science, Engineering, and/or related fields, as well as good theoretical knowledge of their specific area of research (e.g., speech, statistical learning). Advanced programming and analysis skills in Python, Matlab, and/or R are required. Computational modeling skills, while not essential, are a plus.

The initial appointment is for 2 years (full-time) but may be extended to up to 3.5 years, based on performance. Salary will be at GUMC postdoctoral rates and commensurate with experience. While these are fully funded positions, eligible candidates will be encouraged to apply for funding at the NIH, NSF, and other US funding agencies.

Informal inquiries can be addressed to Dr. Orpella at joan.orpella@georgetown.edu. Formal applications should be emailed to orpella.lab@georgetown.edu and include a Curriculum Vitae, representative publications, a cover letter with a brief statement of research interests, and the names of three referees. Both positions are available from September 1st, 2024, with a flexible start date. Applications will be considered in the order received. Review of applications will begin on July 15th and continue until the positions are filled. Alternatively, you can apply through interfolio here.
